Sungai Haji
Dorani is located in Sabak Bernam district, the rice bowl of Selangor. The
homestay program here was established in 1996, with the initial
participation of 16 houses.
Most of the
residents here make a living from their paddy fields. Paddy is planted in
April and October and harvested in January, February, July and August
every year. Other than that, residents also tend to their fruit orchards
everyday, while undertaking traditional economic activities such as
producing tapioca crisps and local traditional cakes.
|
Among the
village activities held specifically for the Sungai Haji Dorani homestay
include fishing in the paddy fields after planting
|
season, collecting
shellfish, paddy processing and wau (kite) making and flying, batik making
ad Javanese shadow play performance. |
|
A majority of
the locals here are Malays, Javanese and Banjars. Their unique culture can
be observed through colourful local customs. Among the special dishes that
can be sampled include the "Pecal Keli/Lele", "Pecal Ayam"
and "Nasi Ambang", a traditional Javanese dish served and shared
in a large tray. |
